GILES' BACKSTORY

Naturally speaking, life was good for Giles.

He was raised as the son of a Brigadier-General in the British army, educated in boarding schools, and then went on to study at Oxford University. Afterwards, he was selected to join the management training program of the largest multinational company in Hong Kong.

Then suddenly his world was turned upside down!

On a posting to Australia, he heard the message of God's grace in Christ Jesus and had a life-changing encounter with the Holy Spirit.

Through this, Giles realised that he had a different vocation. He resigned from his company with all its benefits and became a missionary in the Philippines where he travelled from island to island, living and eating as a local, and holding gospel crusades in town squares.

However, he always felt that this was a great promotion rather than a loss.

Giles began to travel more extensively, firstly with visits to war-torn Sri Lanka to hold events in refugee camps, and then, in the late 1990s to England where he held rallies in a large tent. At one of these, he met his future wife Silvie and, in 2001, he visited her native land of Brazil for the first time.

He became well known for his booklet “The 11th Question – the spiritual self-evaluation test” which became an evangelistic tool used all over Brazil. In one city alone over 100,000 people were evangelised in one-to-one interviews.

Giles has planted churches in the UK and has assisted dozens of ministries to establish themselves. He travels internationally, works across the denominations, and also is a member of the presbytery of the Vine Church (Igreja Videira) in Brazil.

More recently his booklet “7 GOOD THINGS that maybe you don't know” was used in a campaign where 15,000 new believers were baptised on the same day.
